07 Feb Top Spring Treatments
Spring is around the corner, which makes it prime time to take advantage of an IPL, chemical peel, or facial to get your skin summer-ready. Parson Skin Center is committed to helping you achieve your most beautiful, healthiest skin year-round—but come summer, those UV rays are extra strong. Get your skin in shape now while reversing sun damage from last year. Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, also known as a PhotoFacial, is a great way to minimize lines, age spots, discoloration, and various other types of skin imperfections. It’s often categorized as a laser, but is actually an energy-based treatment. At Parson Skin Center, we use the Lumenis IPL machine for a gentle touch that requires no downtime.
IPL does much more than undo sun damage, it’s also fantastic for collagen production, killing bacteria that causes acne, reducing post-injection or post-surgery bruising, and can even soothe rosacea-based redness. You can opt for IPL on the face, hands, and chest to tackle some of the most common skin issues like liver spots, varicose veins, unwanted freckles, and even birthmarks. Unlike a laser that uses a single wavelength, IPL releases a smattering of light wavelengths or “photo flashes.” This scattering means less concentration so that the energy can safely penetrate to the deeper skin layer (dermis) while leaving the top layer intact. Less damage means less downtime and a more comfortable treatment.
Is IPL for You?
IPL works by having unwanted pigment absorb the light energy. This is then turned into heat, and heat breaks the pigment up so that it can be safely metabolized by the body. However, IPL isn’t for everyone. Those prone to keloid scars should take extra precautions and clients who are melanin-rich will typically benefit from a different treatment option in order to avoid unwanted lightening of the skin. Don’t worry—we have a large suite of lasers and can customize treatments for everyone.
However, for those interested in IPL, it’s important to know that the Lumenis M22 features multiple applications and is approved to treat over 30 conditions. Thanks to the Optimal Plus Technology, a single handpiece can be kitted out with a variety of filters. Most people require a series of sessions to get the best results, and the exact number varies person to person. On average, 3 – 6 initial treatments are recommended with maintenance sessions every few months.
Peel Your Way to Perfect Skin
A chemical peel simultaneously removes the top layer(s) of skin while encouraging collagen production. This means that the results keep getting better and better in the weeks following your treatment. We offer a wide range of peels that can be customized to your skin and goals, ranging from light or superficial peels to medium-depth peels. Some of the most popular peels include Illuminize by SkinMedica for vibrant results with no downtime or the Apeele option for fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and sun damage. Although a brief recovery period is needed, clients with any skin tone and type can be a good match for Apeele.
The Vitalize peel by SkinMedica targets sun damage and signs of aging. You can treat mild to moderate skin concerns with this powerful tool. TCA peels have long been one of the most in-demand peels and they can be customized to a variety of strengths. Get rid of dead skin cells while stimulating cell growth as you undo scarring, lines, poor texture, and hyperpigmentation.
