11 Jan Things To Know Before Your Breast Augmentation
Prospective Scottsdale breast augmentation patients are bound to have a plethora of questions regarding breast augmentation surgery. Committing to breast augmentation surgery with or without a breast lift requires knowledge of every part of the process. Before you commit to a surgery, here are the five things you need to know before undergoing your Scottsdale breast augmentation procedure.
1. Breast Augmentation Alone Does Not Fix Sagging Breasts – This Is Not a Breast Lift
One of the common misconceptions among breast augmentation procedures is that this will ultimately fix sagging breasts. There is nothing further from the truth. Sagging, or sometimes described as “droopy” breasts, will require a breast lift. Women who have undergone pregnancy or weight loss can sometimes develop drooping breasts, and a breast lift is often used to help them rejuvenate their breasts. Breast augmentation is not designed to correct these issues. However, the solution would be to opt for a breast lift along with a breast augmentation procedure.
2. Sizing Up Your Breast Augmentation
Sizing your implants before your Scottsdale breast augmentation is no easy task. Cup sizes are a pretty unreliable way to measure the breasts, so surgeons use a variety of measurements and criteria to find the right size of implants for each patient. Measurements like the width of your breasts, the width of your chest, and the thickness of your breast tissue are used to find the right type, size, and shape of implant. It is also wise that your surgeon considers your personality and your lifestyle into account before your decision to have surgery.
3. Determining Breast And Nipple Sensitivity Prior To Breast Augmentation Or Breast Lift
For a period of six to twelve months post-surgery, your body will spend time getting used to the foreign substance and rebuilding stretched or severed nerves. It is not uncommon for patients to feel increased or decreased sensitivity, which may fluctuate back to a normal level once initial recovery period has passed. It is also not uncommon to remain at the same level of sensitivity post-surgery. During your consultation, be sure to ask your surgeon about the changes in nipple sensitivity post-surgery.
4. Post Surgery Expectations After Breast Augmentation
For any breast augmentation process, you will be under anesthetic throughout the entire procedure. Post-surgery, of course, you will experience some pain and discomfort, generally lasting from twenty-four to forty-eight hours—but you’ll be given prescription medicine to help with the pain. Interestingly enough, many patients never feel the need to use prescription pain medicine and stick to over-the-counter pain medication instead. Very commonly, patients have described the first few days of recovery as uncomfortable, but not painful.
5. After My Breast Augmentation, How Long Will The Implants Last?
Like any man-made substance, breast implants will most assuredly experience wear and tear. However, many breast implants have been designed to withstand a great amount of movement and pressure. Some women choose to replace their implants because they want a different look, but many women also tend to keep their implants for an extended length of time. The age in which you undergo a breast augmentation will help determine whether or not you may need to replace them at some point.
