08 Jul ResurFX + Microneedling = the Perfect Pairing
Combining treatments is typically the best way to maximize results, and pairing the ResurFX laser treatment with microneedling is a magical duo. Parson Skin Center offers both, and while individually they can still yield fantastic results, when you put them together the outcome is unstoppable. First, let’s take a look at ResurFX, the only genuine fractional non-ablative laser. One of the biggest perks of this treatment is that it’s a one-and-done treatment—one pass is usually all it takes for maximum results.
Other fractional lasers require multiple passes during the same treatment session to get the best outcome. This is of course more time consuming and requires more downtime (as there is more trauma). Made by Lumenis, ResurFX is designed to help with discoloration, stretch marks, wrinkles, acne scarring, and more of the most common skin concerns. Since it is non-ablative, it does not destroy skin cells. The “fractional” part of the design means that it is affecting a “fraction” of the skin, which means less visible damage and a quicker recovery period.
What You Need to Know About ResurFX
For some reason, ResurFX is often compared to Fraxel laser—perhaps because Fraxel is so well known. However, Fraxel Restore (one of the most popular Fraxel treatments) usually requires 6 – 8 passes for the best results while ResurFX calls for 3 – 4 on average. Understandably, Fraxel is much less comfortable than ResurFX since it requires so many more passes (and treatments). However, keep in mind that ResurFX still has a recovery period. Any treatment that offers such phenomenal outcomes will have downtime. Most patients require one week of recovery once skin is dry, red, and irritated. A lot of clients prefer to lay low during this period, even though it is largely a social recovery.
It is critical to avoid direct, sustained sun rays while recovering from any laser treatment, including ResurFX. Skin is especially vulnerable for about six weeks post-treatment since it is “new.” This does not mean you have to be housebound, but you should always wear medical-grade sunscreen approved by your provider when outside as well as sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and cover treatment areas such as the chest as best you can. Swelling usually subsides in just two to three days post-treatment, and many people feel confident doing a lot of daily tasks, such as picking up kids from school or grocery shopping, just a few days after their treatment.
Microneedling Magic
ResurFX stimulates collagen production, which is the key to looking younger. Treatments are scheduled about one month apart to allow for recovery in the interim. However, ResurFX is not the only collagen induction therapy. Microneedling is a century-old technique that works by creating micro-traumas in the skin that are controlled so they are not visible to the naked eye. Microneedling is usually considered a routine treatment, and most clients opt for sessions once per month. But did you know you can combine it with ResurFX and other treatments?
Collagen is our natural fountain of youth. Unfortunately, we produce less as we get older, but we can “tell” our bodies to get back to producing it—and with ResurFX and microneedling, we can also tell our bodies where to make it. Microneedling is considered a minimally invasive procedure since it does call for specialized needles to make those micro-channels, but there is virtually no downtime. Some redness is common a few hours after the treatment, but it is nothing that should interfere with your day.
