21 Oct One/Four All? Four of the Most Popular Injectables
“Injectables” is used to mean a lot of things—four to be exact when it comes to minimally invasive procedures at Parson Skin Center. Botox, fillers, Sculptra, and Kybella can all give you the look you want with zero to minimum downtime. Are you a good candidate for one, two, three, or all of these treatments? Let’s take a look at what they do, what makes them different from one another, and why you need them this autumn.
Most people know Botox. It’s the must-have neuromodulator that is most commonly used to prevent and treat wrinkles. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause unwanted wrinkles and furrows. It can be used as a pre-juvenation treatment for younger clients or to put an end to deeper established creases. Botox can be paired with any of the other three injectables and also has a number of off-label uses. For example, stopping excessive sweating, providing a slight lift to the brows, and lip lifts can all be achieved with Botox.
All About “Fillers”
What’s the difference between dermal fillers and Sculptra? A lot, even though they are all often considered “fillers.” Dermal fillers made of a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid (HA) provide immediate volume nearly wherever you want it on the face. Depending on the injection site, type of filler, and how many syringes are used, dermal fillers can last anywhere from 6 – 12 months on average. They can also be dissolved if needed, though this shouldn’t be required if you go with a reputable injector.
Sculptra is an injectable, but it works by kick-starting collagen production. It is not made of HA and results are not immediate. Sculptra cannot be used just anywhere, but can be a fantastic solution for the face and tops of the hands for those who want a slow and steady approach. You will see full results about 4 – 6 months after your injection and results last two years on average. Sculptra does ultimately “fill” the target site, but it does so by making your body produce more collagen. As such, it cannot be dissolved, nor do clients want it to be. The more collagen you have, the more youthful you look.
Down with Double Chins
Kybella is another type of injectable, requiring 4 – 6 sessions spaced one month apart to get rid of double chins for good. It is made of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, the body’s natural fat buster. Instead of using a single needle/syringe, Kybella uses a specialized “stamping” device so that the submental fat area receives several injections at once. This makes each treatment as fast and easy as possible. Since it dissolves fat, results are not immediate. However, your injector will be able to gauge how much fat is dissolved about one month after each treatment (which is why treatments are spaced four weeks apart).
Kybella is very effective, which is why a conservative approach is needed. Removing too much fat is never a good idea because once fat is gone, this loss is permanent. That’s why multiple sessions are needed. A reputable injector will see how your body responds to Kybella and adjust each succeeding treatment. In about six months, you’ll see the final results. Getting rid of a double chin can help you look younger, fitter, slimmer, and healthier. Anyone can have a double chin, regardless of size (it’s often genetic). Now you can vanquish it without the need for surgery or incisions.
Combining Treatments
So, which one is for you? It is not uncommon for clients to mix and match, sometimes opting for all four. Maybe you need Botox for wrinkles, an HA filler for instant volume, Sculptra to turn back the clock on your hands, and Kybella to tackle that double chin. In many cases, you can undergo multiple treatments in one appointment (perhaps even all four at once depending on your treatment sites!). This will help minimize time spent in-office and combine any brief downtime. Downtime for all of these injections is minimal, with minor bruising and swelling being relatively common but disappearing quickly. Most people get back to their day after one or all of these injections right away.
