17 Feb Nurse Cures Her Acne with Morpheus8
A nurse in Australia, Tarryn Gapic, recently shared with the Daily Mail how she used Morpheus8 microneedling to cure herself after struggling with acne for years. This innovative form of microneedling, which pairs traditional microneedling with the delivery of radiofrequency (RF) energy, quickly became one of the most requested treatments at Parson Skin Center. It takes microneedling to the next level, creating a hybrid treatment that gives patients a double whammy of therapy. According to Gapic, she first got acne as a teenager and it never totally went away. Now 31 years old, she says she has been self-conscious of her face for years.
Gapic describes her typical life pre-Morpheus8 as having random spots all over her face. Topicals and other treatments sometimes worked for a little while, but nothing stuck. When she heard about Morpheus8, she had to give it a try. Gapic says, “After the second round of needling, my skin is clearer and the texture is smoother. I don’t really have to wear makeup.” This was the first time she got “tangible” results after nearly two decades of trying. Morpheus8 is costlier than traditional microneedling—it is, after all, two treatments in one—but Gapic said it was totally worth it.
The Morpheus8 Experience
Gapic says, “I spent so much money on pills, needling and other treatments.” She had also tried traditional microneedling before and says there really is little difference in the sensation. Both microneedling and Morpheus8 are considered tolerable treatments, and a numbing agent is applied prior to the procedure for optimal comfort. In most cases, when Morpheus8 is strictly used on the face, it takes just 20 – 30 minutes. For Gapic, who presented with different acne symptoms (including redness, scarring, and hyperpigmentation), Morpheus8 was a way to treat all her symptoms “in one go.”
When asked about her history with acne, like many people Gapic reflected on her self-esteem. “It really knocks your confidence trying to hide pustules and lumps,” she says. Gapic also shared some of her acne pictures with the Daily Mail, and it’s clear she has struggled with different kinds of acne for several years. Just like with regular microneedling, Morpheus8 intentionally punctures and traumatizes the skin in order to encourage collagen induction. However, it’s the added boost of RF energy that really did the trick for Gapic.
Microneedling on Speed
Microneedling is considered minimally invasive and a great option for overall skin rejuvenation. Morpheus8 needles are up to 5 mm long, with shorter needles more common in traditional microneedling. Microneedling is most often recommended for treating scars, fine lines and wrinkles, lax skin, and stretch marks. When Gapic talked with the Daily Mail, she had completed two of her four recommended treatments and says she will complete her rounds and go back for maintenance sessions. Unlike traditional microneedling, Morpheus8 isn’t recommended as a monthly treatment but rather every 3 – 6 months (after the initial bout of sessions). She describes results at the halfway mark as having helped with smoother skin, better texture, and a reduction in scarring.
Another acne-related benefit of Morpheus8 is that it can help control oil flow. Oil can be a trigger for acne since it can clog the pores and, thus, create an ideal environment for the bacteria that causes acne. There are also patients who have had success using Morpheus8 to smooth cellulite and tighten skin elsewhere on their body, like their stomach and neck. However, it is also a fantastic acne treatment for many people. Most people will have acne at some point in their lives, and around 85 percent of Australians aged 15–24 have acne, which can trigger feelings of depression and anxiety.
