06 Dec Microblading Is The New Big Thing
Everybody is talking about Microblading, the latest, semi-permanent way to get perfect eyebrows…and yes, it’s very similar to a tattoo. You’ll find them in plastic surgery offices and medical day spas such as Parson Skin Center.
The world of eyebrow tattooing can be a very confusing one. They call it a lot of different things, such as eyebrow embroidery, micro pigmentation, and then they add methods…such as 3-D, feathering, etching. It’s all too much to comprehend much less understand what you’re signing up for.
First, let’s make it clear that they are all tattoos, and the only difference between permanent and semi-permanent tattooing is how deeply the ink is injected into the skin. Brows are expected to fade, so a digital pen or Microblading tool is used to implant ink very specifically into the skin.
Is That How Microblading Works?
With Microblading you receive a manual tattoo with an instrument resembling an exacto knife, only it’s not a knife at all. Tiny needles are placed on the instrument so that small incisions can be made in the skin, making small hair strokes. The needles are dipped into pigment when each hair stroke is made. The color sinks in for a few minutes, the brows are wiped and, voila!. You’ve got eyebrows!
It generally takes 1-2 sessions to complete the Microblading, the second appointment is more or less a perfecting appointment.
Is that All There Is To It?
Again, we said it’s semi-permanent, so it won’t last forever, but, one to two years isn’t bad. If not touched up in 12-18 months, they will eventually fade.
A Few Things To Keep In Mind
Make very sure you find a reputable tattoo artist that knows what they are doing. It is important to note that eyebrow tattoos are not FDA approved. Cosmetic grade pigments are FDA approved for topical use only. No tattoo pigment has ever been approved by the FDA …it’s just not what they do. So, consequently, make doubly sure you are seeing a reputable, experienced tattoo artist.
As with any artist’s work, you prefer some art to others. This is true in Microblading, too. Look through portfolios of pictures until you find your artistic match and remember, even though they are semi permanent, a tattoo is a tattoo. There is no foolproof way to remove one completely.
