Ablative Laser Rejuvenation
Those who are good candidates for ablative lasers have mild to moderate scarring, hyperpigmentation, or signs of aging. You will see results after just one treatment, but that treatment can come with up to two weeks of downtime. Swelling, redness, and crusty skin are some of the expected developments during the recovery period.
If you have significant skin concerns, deep scars, and want big results fast, ablative lasers are a great choice. A lot of patients feel the need to take time off of work to recover from ablative rejuvenation, both for their own comfort and for discretion.
Non-Ablative Laser Rejuvenation
Those who primarily want to improve the tone and texture of the skin can benefit from a non-ablative laser approach. Ideal clients for this option may also have fine lines and mild wrinkles or hyperpigmentation. Non-ablative lasers are lighter and usually require no downtime, but the results are not as dramatic when compared to ablative lasers treatments.
Results can be drastically improved by using complementary treatments such as microneedling, facials, or chemical peels. Taking time off of work is not typically necessary, as the most common side effect of non-ablative laser treatments is a pink tone to the skin for a few days.
The best candidates for no-ablative laser treatments are younger than 60, only have mild to moderate signs of aging and minimal sagging, are willing to have multiple treatments to see results, and don’t want to or can’t take time off of work.

ResurFX Laser Resurfacing
ResurFX is the primary non-ablative laser we recommend. It does a great job of stimulating collagen production and improving overall skin quality. ResurFX is part of the Lumenis family, and the machine used for this treatment is the M22. This is the same machine used for IPL treatment, but with a different handpiece. ResurFX is a laser, while IPL is an energy-based treatment. IPL addresses imperfection in the outermost layer of the skin, such as discoloration and scars, while ResurFX can go deeper. The Lumenis technology allows for every treatment to be customized to the patient and condition, and both treatments require no downtime.
AcuPulse Laser Resurfacing
AcuPulse is our most recommended fractional ablative laser. “Fractional” means that the laser beam is split into thousands of tiny treatment zones that only target a “fraction” of the skin at any given time. There are various strengths that can be achieved with AcuPulse. A full CO2 treatment is quite deep and provides impressive results after just one treatment. However, it does affect the top layer of skin as well, so downtime is needed. Scars, lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, hyperpigmentation, and poor skin tone can all be dramatically reduced with AcuPulse. This device is fully tunable to customize the strength, whether clients want a light touch or a deeper rejuvenation.
