08 May It’s Not Too Late to Emsculpt for Summer
Oops—did your New Year’s resolution to hit the gym get put on the back burner? Don’t worry. At Parson Skin Center, we have Emsculpt to help you quickly set a solid foundation for toning and sculpting muscles (or take your current fitness to the next level). Emsculpt does require a series of sessions spaced one month apart, usually 4 – 6 sessions depending on the target site, but if you start right now you’ll definitely be able to show off a more sculpted physique during swimsuit season. Just remember that Emsculpt isn’t a replacement for a healthy lifestyle, but an addition to it.
So, how does it work? It’s a celebrity favorite because it’s backed by science and just makes sense. Emsculpt is a non-invasive treatment in which pads are applied to targeted muscles, which then forces these muscles into 20,000 supramaximal contractions in just 30 minutes. It’s the exact same contraction you can achieve doing something like a bicep curl, lunge, crunch, or other strengthening move. The differences are 1) you’re not putting in the effort (the machine is), 2) the contractions are flawless and super fast, 3) there’s no risk of injury like you face at the gym, and 4) you can seriously target muscles. It’s impossible to really isolate most muscles while working out (you will always use assister muscles during an exercise), and sometimes you don’t want certain assister muscles to get bigger and stronger. Only Emsculpt can truly isolate muscles so you can customize results.
Getting Ready for Emsculpt
There’s virtually no prep work (or downtime!) with Emsculpt! Simply show up to your appointment and relax. The sensation of Emsculpt is a bit strange the first time, since your muscles really are contracting like they’re working out, but it’s not painful or uncomfortable. A lot of our clients livestream the treatment or use the time to catch up on emails or shows. You can also book back-to-back appointments. For example, Emsculpt on the abs and then the booty is popular and, combined, takes just one hour.
Do keep in mind that your muscles might feel sore in the days following your treatment. Delayed onset muscle soreness, or DOMS, is still very much a thing. Your body doesn’t know the difference between you doing 20,000 squats at the gym or getting Emsculpt. So, if you want to minimize soreness, sip on BCAA-infused water before, during, and after your treatment. This will help alleviate any soreness.
After Emsculpt
Don’t be disappointed when you don’t have washboard abs right after your treatment. You wouldn’t see results right after leaving the gym, either. Building muscle takes time. We get stronger, more toned muscles because it’s the body’s response to a stressor. When our muscles are put under certain levels of stress, whether it’s via lifting a dumbbell or Emsculpt, tiny tears occur. These aren’t the kind of tears that bench you, but instead they’re helping the muscles create a good kind of scar tissue. The reason for this is simple: your body is smart and it wants to make sure your muscles are strong enough to withstand a similar force in the future. However, they need a little time. Scar tissue (and muscles) don’t form overnight.
Your muscles also need a little help and TLC. For those used to hitting the gym, you know how important a good diet is to help recovery and growth. Specifically, protein is essential for building muscle. Bring a protein-heavy snack with you, such as a protein bar, and consume it as soon after your Emsculpt session as possible. Aim for 20 – 30 grams of protein so that your muscles get the help they need. After all, they just went through a massive training session!
You’ll start to see some results about one month after your first session. Full results will be visible within two months of your last cycle. Most clients choose maintenance sessions every six months to maintain their results. Whether you’re starting a new workout regimen or need help busting through a plateau, Emsculpt can help and is suitable for nearly all adults.
