13 May Does Lipodissolve Work?
Lipodissolve + Liposuction
Let’s discuss lipodissolve and liposuction. Liposuction to remove subcutaneous fat was first developed 35 years ago and is one of the most common aesthetic surgical procedures in the United States with 341,144 procedures reported in 2011. The obvious downside to liposuction is the fact that one has to have some form or fashion of surgery to have the procedure performed. So are there any alternatives to liposuction? Are there ways to achieve similar results without actually having surgery?
Does Lipodissolve work?
The short answer is no! There are a number of non-surgical procedures that are currently being offered to reduce fat but not have been clinically shown to be as effective as liposuction. However, some of these non-surgical alternatives do provide real results and can remove fat. The important issue is that patients need to be well informed and understand the advantages and limitations of these various procedures. One such non-surgical alternative to fat removal is “Lipodissolve”.
Lipodissolve is a the terms given to subcutaneous injection of two substances called phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate. A recent article in the March issue of the Aesthetic Journal of Surgery goes through the current literature to determine if Lipodissolve really works. The articles authors found that, in fact, lipodissolve does work! They found that lippodissolve is clinically effective at removing moderate amounts of fat in appropriate patients. More importantly, they found that there were no serious adverse effects in the healthy adult women that they reviewed in their study. They found that the ideal candidate for this procedure was a patient who desired treatment of “small areas of excess fat or localized deposits.” The article went on to say that patients, “need to be aware that achieving desired results may take several months.”
