18 Feb More Designers Making Tops for Big-Breasted Women—and Those with Implants
Breast augmentation, the enhancement of breasts via the placement of breast implants, has been one of the most-requested surgeries around the globe for years—and 2021 was no exception. At Dr. Shaun Parson Plastic Surgery & Skin Center, there was a surge of breast augmentations since the onset of the pandemic, which makes perfect sense. With more and more people working from home, only visible on Zoom, they were able to recover from below-the-neck surgeries in peace. There are many factors that go into deciding whether breast augmentation surgery should be undergone, including better fit of clothes. But will clothes really fit better if you have a bigger bust? Thanks to recent trends, the answer is yes!
Numerous designers are creating clothes specifically for women with larger chests. According to Ignacia Fulcher, a Buzzfeed writer who penned an article on “the most boob-friendly stores you can find,” contenders include White House Black Market, ModCloth, and even Charlotte Russe (who many consider a shop for “juniors” and certainly not for those with larger breasts). These are just a few of the shops and designers Fulcher recommends, and there’s a reason behind this shift. Simply put, clothing in the past century or so was largely dictated by men, which meant that actually serving their customer demographic (women) wasn’t always at the forefront. Today, it’s a customer-centric world and a lot of women have (or choose to have!) a more feminine figure. It’s time clothing followed suit.
Implants Improve Your Clothing Today
There are even some designers who explicitly serve those with larger breasts, and this doesn’t mean these brands are inherently “plus-sized.” It’s very possible to have a healthy or slim figure and larger breasts, especially for those with breast implants. This is the inspiration behind Miriam Baker’s eponymous line, which she began developing when she was just a teenager. The Toronto designer says, “I couldn’t fit into the biggest DD bra. Shopping for clothes was discouraging. I felt like there was something wrong with me because of the size of my chest.”
Of course, many women would love to have Baker’s “problem”—especially since it’s not a problem at all anymore thanks to clothes that actually consider a woman’s figure. Baker reveals, “I was fed up. One day I was daydreaming and came up with the idea of making clothes for women with big busts.” She attended the School of Fashion at Ryerson University while working in retail and later won the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s Most Promising Designer Award.
Ditch the Idea of Breast Implant Issues
Ask any woman with naturally large breasts what one of the most annoying parts of shopping is, and they will often say finding button-up shirts that actually fit or that they struggle with dresses that just aren’t cut to flatter an hourglass shape. Those days are over, which means women considering breast augmentation can fully look forward to a shopping spree post-surgery. Even though today’s trend in breast augmentation are towards a smaller, more natural teardrop-shape, even a little increase in volume and fullness can call for a new wardrobe. Check out the many shops, brands, lines, and designers who account for larger breasts and you may not even go up a size—but you will certainly experience a skyrocketing self-confidence.
Gone are the days when female fashion designers were the rare exception. After all, it takes a woman to know a woman’s figure, needs, and desires when it comes to fashion. Those who undergo breast augmentation already have the bonus of often not “having” to wear a bra because the post-op effect is that of perky, youthful breasts. Now, you don’t have to let fashion get in the way either. Say goodbye to bras, bra bulge, and tops that don’t fit right when you shop where big breasts are celebrated. A quick Google search will reveal a bevy of options just for you.
