14 Jan Dermal Fillers are for More than Your Lips
When you hear “fillers” you probably think it’s all lip service—after all, the lips remain one of the most popular places for dermal fillers for clients of all ages. That’s certainly true at Parson Skin Center, where we carry all of the most in-demand, safest, and effective dermal fillers for nearly every part of the face (and even the tops of the hands). However, as fillers have become a staple for many people, just as popular as Botox, how we use fillers has evolved. Dermal fillers can do much more than plump up your lips. When injected by an expert and when the right filler is used, you can make your face look younger, healthier, and more symmetrical.
Chin fillers have been on the rise in recent months, but there’s still a lot of misinformation about them. We can thank the Zoom Boom for the influx of chin filler requests, as people have spent nearly two years now staring at themselves on a screen. Before dermal fillers, the only way to change your chin shape was with surgery. That’s no longer the case. You might also be surprised at just how important the chin is for overall facial balance and for helping you look younger and slenderer (bear in mind that a double chin can happen to anyone regardless of weight when a “weak chin” is the culprit).
Why We Overlook the Chin, Jaw, Temples, and More
Ask anyone where dermal fillers “go” and you’ll likely hear lips and cheeks. These have long been the two most popular places for dermal fillers, with cheek fillers replacing the much more aggressive cheek implants of yore. However, less obvious filler placements can work wonders. The chin, for example, is the face’s foundation. It anchors all of your features, so enhancing it can help to smooth out lines and creases, restore volume (or provide it where you’ve never had it!), and highlight features you love like your eyes and lips.
Similarly, fillers along the jawline can have pretty similar results. A well-defined jawline is a sign of youth, and we have many patients bringing in photos of Ariana Grande (who epitomizes the strong female jawline). The shape of your face is also largely dictated by your jaw. Whether you want to decrease the look of a double chin, alter your face shape, or establish symmetry, jawline dermal fillers can make this happen.
Don’t forget about the temples and tops of the hands. These are two places where we tend to lose “good fat” as we age. Visible veins are a sign of aging that we often don’t talk about, but are just as prevalent as lines and crepe-like appearance. If you want to instantly look younger, fillers in the hands and temples provide immediate results. Additionally, temple fillers can aid in achieving symmetry and manipulating facial shape, too.
Chin Up
When it comes to less orthodox dermal filler placement, the chin is all the rage right now. Most clients want to address what is called “chin retrusion,” which is when the chin is more recessed than it should be. This can happen for a number of reasons, including genetics, so adults of any age might be good candidates for chin fillers. One way to quickly see if your chin is recessed is to hold a pencil vertically from the tip of your nose to the lower lip and the chin. The pencil should touch the nose and lower lip, but almost touch the chin, providing a little space. However, if there’s a big gap between the pencil and chin, you might have chin retrusion.
There’s also the persistent myth that fillers are only for people who don’t like their chin shape. This might be the case with some patients, but others are perfectly happy with the shape of their chin and simply want to fix chin retrusion. It’s a very common condition, particularly if you’re 50+. Dermal fillers are a quick and easy way to make adjustments, and you’ll be amazed at how much magic just a syringe or two can do.
