31 Oct Making The Choice Between Breast Implants
Traditional round breast implants are the norm for most breast augmentations, but there is also a more anatomical teardrop-shape that many refer to as “shaped” implants. It is surprising to many that there are in fact two different shape options for breast augmentation.
The majority of breast augmentations performed are done so by using round implants, and only about 30% use anatomical or what are known as shaped implants instead. The “shaped” implants have their own unique set of benefits, but they don’t work for every woman. How do you know if you’re a good candidate for anatomical or “shaped” implants?
Why Implant Shape Is Important
As with the round implants, shaped implants may be either silicone gel or saline. These anatomical breast implants also offer a third choice; a highly cohesive silicone gel, which is firmer than traditional silicone implants. The teardrop-shaped implants offer women a final result with contours that are actually more similar to the natural breast. They offer less volume up towards the top of the breast, and more at the base.
Should you be seeking a more subtle breast enhancement, anatomical implants may be chosen by women who are seeking a more prominent upper area fullness that the round implants provide. Because of their particular shape, it makes them ideal for use in reconstructive surgery since their graduated shape offers such natural looking results.
Round implants can be filled with either saline or silicone and they remain the more common choice for breast enhancement. But saline implants can be filled after placement, so consequently, you will have a smaller incision, while silicone implants have a thicker filling that feels to some, more like an actual breast.
