28 Feb Breast Lift with Augmentation: Two Procedures in One
If you’re confused about the difference between breast lifts, breast augmentations, and breast implants, you’re not alone. Dr. Shaun Parson Plastic Surgery and Skin Center specializes in all of these procedures, and there’s often some overlap. Unfortunately, these terms are often also (wrongly) used interchangeably.
Breast augmentation with lift is the combination of both a breast lift and breast implants. Not all breast implant surgeries require a breast lift (the removal of excess tissue). Particularly for younger clients or those with smaller breasts, it’s helpful to have a little lax breast tissue—especially if the client is going substantially larger.
However, it’s much more common for a woman to have loose breast tissue that needs to be removed in addition to breast implants. This is particularly true for women who have breastfed, have lost significant amounts of weight, or who have had weight fluctuations throughout their life.
Skin becomes looser due to losses in collagen and elastin, age, genetics, breastfeeding, and even sun damage. Full, perky breasts are a sign of youth and health. It’s an ideal that many women aspire to, and can often only achieve with breast augmentation. The size and shape of the breasts can and do change over time. Women who once had full breasts might find they are “deflated” over time. Nipples that point directly downward is another sign of loose breast tissue.

Combining a breast lift with breast implants in a single breast procedure is the most common breast surgery. It offers the most striking results while still looking natural. For those wanting an especially natural look, smaller implants placed under the chest muscles can look completely natural. However, opting for breast implants when a breast lift is also needed can disrupt the results.
