06 Oct Breast Augmentation – Where Is The Best Point Of Insertion?
Most of the time when a woman is thinking of breast augmentation, the first and foremost issue on her mind is the question of size. Although that is a big question, it is not the only question that needs addressing. The choice of implant location is an important question that should be discussed in great length with your surgeon.
Because the point of insertion is where the implant goes into the body, it is also where a small scar will be. It is a small scar and usually barely visible, but you should be aware of it and have some input into where the insertion takes place.
Choices of breast augmentation insertion sites are:
- Axillary – through the armpit
- Infraareolar – on the bottom half of the areola
- Inframammary – in the inframammary fold
Most surgeons agree that the ultimate insertion area for a breast augmentation with no lift is either the infraareolar or axillary location. With the infraareolar technique, the insertion is at the bottom edge of the areola. This scar will fade into oblivion and be barely visible. The other favored insertion point is through the armpits. It is imperative that as a patient, you participate in the decision-making regarding your surgery.
