14 Dec Botox is for Everyone: Preventative and “Right Now” Treatments
Botox and other neuromodulators like Dysport have long been staple treatments. But what began as a means to erase wrinkles in people who’ve entered middle-age years and beyond has become the go-to option for clients of every age. Parson Skin Center has seen an increase in younger patients, including those in their early 20s, opting for Botox. Don’t worry, because this isn’t a case of widespread Body Dysmorphic Disorder with 21-year-olds thinking they “need” to erase lines and wrinkles. Instead, this trend points to the reality that Botox is incredibly effective at preventing those wrinkles from starting to form—plus it has some incredible off-label uses.
According to Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Heather Gay, there’s no such thing as too much Botox. Gay opts for Botox every 3 – 4 months, which indicates that she falls squarely into the average timespan that Botox is effective for most clients. This particular Housewives franchise just debuted on November 11, so Gay was adamant that she wanted to look her best. She also owns Beauty Lab and stresses that Botox was critical in helping her to look and feel her best as a single mom and recent (Mormon) divorcee.
How Does Botox Prevent Wrinkles?
Botox prevents wrinkles the same way it treats them, by temporarily freezing or paralyzing the muscles that cause them. The face is full of muscles, and some small muscles are solely in charge of creating frown lines, unwanted lines and wrinkles, and furrows. When these muscles are paralyzed with Botox, particularly with regular injections every few months, they are trained to not be very strong. It’s the same concept as working out muscles on your body. The more they are exercised or moved, the stronger they will get. On the face, this results in deeper and deeper lines.
Contrarily, when you prevent muscles from moving, they get weaker. The technical term for this is atrophy. That’s not a good thing when you’re talking about functional muscles like your glutes, hamstrings, or biceps, but it’s completely harmless when it happens to tiny frown-inducing muscles that you simply don’t need. Take the glabellar lines between the forehead as an example, often called the “angry elevens.” These two lines form by frowning, squinting, and furrowing. Nothing negative will happen if you weaken, freeze, or atrophy the muscles that cause these lines—the worst case scenario is that your inability to squint will have you reaching for your sunglasses a little faster.
Younger patients are realizing that it’s a lot better to prevent lines in the first place than to treat them down the road. However, other patients (of all ages) have fallen in love with some different benefits of Botox.
Say Goodbye to Headaches and Sweat—Or Give Yourself a “Facelift”
Botox is a proven method for preventing migraines. Numerous studies have backed this up and just a couple of injections near the temples can dramatically decrease or even stop your migraine episodes every month. Minimizing use of pharmaceuticals and knowing that you won’t suddenly be attacked by a migraine has had patients flocking for Botox treatments.
Botox can stop sweating the same way it stops wrinkles. When injected, it freezes the sweat glands at certain sites. This is a fantastic tool for anyone struggling with excessive and embarrassing sweat production. There are few treatments that achieve these results, and a quick and easy injection that puts a stop to this common problem has attracted a lot of attention—and appointments.
Botox can also be used to subtly “lift” aspects of the face, like the brows, in order to achieve results similar to a mini facelift. You can get a better arch of the brow, lift up eyelids that are just starting to droop, and ultimately “tweak” your face slightly so that it looks slimmer, younger, and healthier.
There’s a reason Botox has been in such high demand for decades. It’s safe and it works for a multitude of common issues. Many clients combine it with other treatments or use Botox to address more than one concern. To schedule your Botox appointment, call Parson Skin Center today at (480) 282-8386.
