03 Sep Why Breast Augmentation is a Must-Have for College Students
Colleges and universities are back in session, and for many students in Arizona the “new normal” is already getting old. Every year, Dr. Shaun Parson Plastic Surgery & Skin Center sees an influx in college students interested in breast augmentation surgery and this year is no exception. Lauded with grants, scholarships, and summer work savings (and, okay, sometimes parents’ funds), autumn in Arizona has always been the season for college students to learn if breast implants are right for them.
When you look good, you feel good—and everyone could use a little more of that starting college during a pandemic. The good news is that if you’re opting for online studies in the coming term (or your college offers no other alternative!), you’ll have plenty of time to heal while taking online classes. Any cosmetic surgery is a big deal and requires a recovery period, and this is also true of breast augmentation. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t multi-task (which is a skill you’re already perfecting as you work towards your degree). It’s very feasible to take online classes from the comfort of your home or dorm and heal from a game-changing surgery at the same time.
The best news? You’ll likely be healed by Halloween so you can definitely show off that sizzling costume in a series of selfies.
What Exactly is Breast Augmentation?
You may have heard about various types of breast surgeries including breast augmentation, breast implants, breast lifts, and breast augmentation with lift surgery. Breast augmentation and breast implants are the same thing, with breast augmentation being the cosmetic surgery to enhance the size and shape of your breasts via the placement of breast implants. A breast lift removes excess skin in order to “lift” the breasts and make them perkier. Sometimes a breast lift also includes the placement of breast implants, but in these cases this are two different but complementary procedures. Breast reconstruction surgery is exclusively to reconstruct breasts after a trauma, such as a mastectomy.
Ready to dive into the next lesson on breast augmentation? As you can imagine, there are many types of choices when it comes to customizing your breast implant procedure. There are different types of breast implants, with the most common being saline, silicone, or “gummy bear.” Neither is better than the other, but young women usually have a preference based on how they feel. There’s also a choice when it comes to where exactly the implant is placed, either on top of the chest muscles or below them. Placing implants below the chest muscles feels more natural to a lot of women, especially for those who are very slender. However, this placement is also a little more aggressive and therefore the healing time will be slightly longer.
Breast Augmentation Designed for You
The shape of the breast implant is also personalized to your liking. There are traditional “teardrop” shapes that mimic natural breast shapes, but some women prefer round implants for a more eye-catching look. Of course, you also select the size (which is measured in cc’s). Your surgeon will tell you exactly what size you need to achieve a certain cup size if that’s part of your goal.
Many women are understandably concerned about scarring. Will people be able to tell you got breast implants? The incisions will never tell because there are a variety of placements including in the natural crease at the bottom of the breast and even in the armpit to hide the scarring. Plus, all scarring will be thin and fade to a lighter shade with time. Of course, the actual size of your breasts might give away your secret depending on your choice—which is why it’s best to opt for breast implants at the start of the school year and while you’re taking online classes. That gives you more leeway since nobody will see you recovering.
In many cases, such as with a facelift, you might be recommended to wait until you’re older to see a cosmetic surgeon. However, breast augmentation can and should be enjoyed by women who desire it during the best years of their life. Why wait to achieve the aesthetic you want? You’ll never be in a better time of your life to take the plunge and see if breast augmentation is right for you.
