21 Jun Tips for a Successful and Comfortable Tummy Tuck Recovery
A tummy tuck can provide exciting results for anyone who has been struggling to shape their midsection. However, when deciding to undergo a tummy tuck, it’s important to remember that it is a surgical procedure and one that will require a recovery period. At Dr. Shaun Parson Plastic Surgery in Scottsdale, we want to make sure your tummy tuck experience is a pleasant one. Here are some tips to ensure your recovery is not only successful but also comfortable.
Rest, Rest and Rest Some More
Rest seems like a given, but it is by far, one of the most important things you can do following your tummy tuck. You don’t want to overdo it following surgery, or else you pose the risk of setting your recovery back. Your body needs time to heal. During a tummy tuck, your skin is stretched and muscles sutured, so any extensive activity could possibly put a strain on the treated area. This does not mean, however, you should be on bedrest. You’ll need to walk and stay mobile per Dr. Parson’s directions and as you feel comfortable doing so. This helps to prevent blood clots.
Follow Doctor’s Order
Another given, but necessary to have a successful recovery. Before sending you home, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Shaun Parson will explain all the dos and don’ts of your recovery. It’s imperative that you follow his directions. He may advise you to wear a compression garment or on how to handle any drain tubes placed. Dr. Parson only has your best interest in mind, so his directions are strictly to help you recover and to keep you safe.
Eat for Recovery
Naturally, after your tummy tuck you’ll want to eat a healthy diet to maintain your results; however, what you eat during the days immediately following surgery can have a significant impact on your comfort and recovery. It goes without saying – stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water to help flush out toxins. Diets rich in vitamins A and C, which include meat, eggs, and leafy greens, will help fight off infections and promote healing. Stay away from salty foods that can cause you to feel bloated as well as foods that might cause gas, such as soda, beans, and cabbage.
Dr. Shaun Parson Plastic Surgery wants you to have a safe and comfortable tummy tuck recovery. And we will be with you every step of the way to ensure you have just that.
