29 Aug Having Kids After A Breast Augmentation
You’ve had a breast augmentation surgery and are now wondering what happens when you’re pregnant. This is a very common concern for future moms. Rest assured, women who undergo breast augmentation and then become pregnant at a later date have very little or no significant change in the appearance of the augmented breasts.
Breast Implants and Pregnancy
While breast implants are not impacted by pregnancy or breastfeeding, you may want to know that the surrounding breast tissue can be significantly impacted. That is because pregnancy changes the body in various ways following breast augmentation and pregnancy. Some patients are impacted minimally, while others complain that their breasts have sagged, lost volume or now have stretch marks. These changes are probably not related to the breast implants themselves. Rather, they are related to the natural biologic tendencies of the breast tissue. In other words, loss of breast volume, sag and stretch marks would have occurred even if breast implants weren’t present.
If for some reason you experience significant changes in the tissue of your breasts after having kids, please do consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. You have options. A breast lift can restore the sagging tissue and a revision breast surgery, such as implant exchange or breast lift, may be necessary to return to your pre-pregnancy body.
